West Virginia CLE Requirements

Whether you’re an experienced or newly admitted West Virginia attorney, here’s what you need to know about the WV CLE rules and how to get your West Virginia CLE Requirements fulfilled with a Knowledge Group CLE Bundle.

West Virginia CLE Requirements: All attorneys admitted to practice in West Virginia shall complete twenty-four (24) credit hours of continuing legal education including at least three (3) credit hours of legal ethics, office management, substance abuse, or elimination of bias in the legal profession.

Compliance Deadline: June 30

Reporting Deadline: July 31

Compliance Cycle: Biennial

Approval of Programs: The Knowledge Group does not submit application for CLE credits in West Virginia. Attorneys may apply directly for individual course approval through their online membership portal. Paper filings are no longer accepted. Attendees seeking approved credits should send an email to [email protected]  for more information

Program Format: The Knowledge Group webcasts qualify as online programs in West Virginia. Attorneys are limited to twelve (12) credit hours of online programs per reporting period. View our list of LIVE Webcasts and Recorded Webcasts.

WV CLE Reporting Procedure: The Knowledge Group does not submit attendance report to West Virginia CLE Commission.

COVID-19 Update: The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia issued an order effective January 28, 2021 that allows attorneys to earn all or any portion of the required 24 CLE credit minimum through video, audio, correspondence, telephone seminars, computer-based training courses and in-house instruction. This temporary waiver is limited to the 2020-2022 reporting period ending June 30, 2022.

For Newly Admitted Attorneys

West Virginia CLE Requirements For Newly Admitted Attorneys: Newly-admitted attorneys in the state of West Virginia, admitted between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 are required to complete twelve (12) credit hours of continuing legal education including at least three (3) credit hours of legal ethics, office management, substance abuse, or elimination of bias in the legal profession. Attorneys admitted on July 1, 2015 or later are exempt for the 2014-2016 reporting period.
