Minnesota CLE Requirements

Whether you’re an experienced or newly admitted Minnesota attorney, here’s what you need to know about the MN CLE rules and how to get your Minnesota CLE Requirements fulfilled with a Knowledge Group CLE Bundle.

Minnesota CLE Requirements: All attorneys admitted to practice in Minnesota shall complete forty-five (45) credit hours of continuing legal education including at least three (3) credit hours of ethics and at least two (2) credit hours of elimination of bias.

New Update: Starting from July 1, 2024, Minnesota attorneys must complete 1 credit in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder. However, Compliance Group 1, whose CLE is due by June 30, 2024, are exempt from fulfilling this new credit requirement until the commencement of their new compliance period.

Compliance Deadline: June 30

Reporting Deadline: August 31

Minnesota licensed lawyers are assigned to one of three reporting categories:

  • Category 1: July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024; July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027
  • Category 2: July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022; July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025
  • Category 3: July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023; July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026


Approval of Programs:
 The Knowledge Group does not automatically submit CLE application for all our programs in Minnesota. Attendees seeking approved credits should send an email to [email protected] for more information.

Program Format: The Knowledge Group Live webcasts qualify as live courses, and Recorded webcasts qualify as on-demand courses in Minnesota. There is no limit to the number of credits a Minnesota attorney can earn in these courses. View our list of Live and Recorded webcasts.

The Knowledge Group Recorded Webcasts qualify as on-demand courses in Minnesota. Attorneys are limited to fifteen (15) credit hours of on-demand courses per compliance period. View our list of Recorded Webcasts.

Minnesota CLE Reporting Procedure: The Knowledge Group submits attendance report for approved courses to Minnesota Board of CLE.

For Newly Admitted Attorneys

Minnesota CLE Requirements For Newly Admitted Attorneys: New lawyers have a full three-year reporting period, plus the balance of the year that the lawyer is admitted.
