California CLE Requirements

Whether you’re an experienced or newly admitted California attorney, here’s what you need to be in the know about the CA CLE rules and how to get your California CLE Requirements fulfilled with a Knowledge Group CLE Bundle.

California CLE Requirements: All attorneys admitted to practice in California shall complete twenty-five (25) credit hours of continuing legal education including at least four (4) credit hours of legal ethics, 1 credit competence issues, 1 credit elimination of bias.

New Update: Beginning with the compliance period ending January 31, 2025, attorneys admitted to practice in California shall complete twenty-five (25) credit hours of continuing legal education, including at least four (4) credit hours of legal ethics, two (2) credit hours of competence issues, one (1) credit hour of technology in the practice of law, and one (1) credit hour of civility in the legal profession.

Compliance Deadline: January 31

Reporting Deadline: February 1

California-admitted attorneys are divided into three compliance groups:

Compliance Cycle: 
Every three years

Approval of Programs: The Knowledge Group is an approved Multiple Activity Provider in the state of California thus, TKG programs are presumptively approved.

Program Format: The Knowledge Group webcasts qualify as participatory activities in California. There is no limit to the number of credits a California attorney can earn via participatory activities. View our list of LIVE Webcasts and Recorded Webcasts.

CA CLE Requirements Reporting Procedure: Neither members nor providers report attendance at an approved activity to the State Bar of California. Members are responsible for keeping track of their own education. Attorneys must keep the certificates of attendance that providers distribute when attending a participatory education activity. (Providers are required to keep a record for four years of members’ attendance at provider’s participatory activities. Duplicate certificates of attendance may be available from the provider.)
