Overview:

Today’s digitally-dependent market requires businesses to store all sorts of data into their systems. From simple day-to-day transactions and records to the most sensitive company and client data, business processes have now evolved in order to accommodate and effectively implement the complex nature of data protection. • Legacy data can be a liability, not an asset
  • Data collected should be tied to a legitimate basis (collect and retain data with purpose)
  • Develop triggers to indicate when a data purpose no longer exists so that data can be deleted
  • Educate people at all levels of the organization about handling sensitive data
  • Ask why data is being collected or retained and take action if a legitimate basis does not exist
  • If you do not need to, do not collect data. Data Minimization should be the norm, not the exception
